We employ the latest versions of all the software we use, do not use pirated or otherwise illegal software or hardware and ensure that we have up-to-date licences for all software and all fonts.
Arbortext APP (3B2)
We use the latest version of APP, v10 and are in the process of upgrading to v11. The main advantage that this version has over all previous versions is that it has a built-in ‘live parser’ that continuously parses the xml content as it is being processed through it. This is a major step forward in the ability to produce clean xml easily, seamlessly and quickly and dispenses with the need for several back-end validation processes.
Techset invests in PTC Corps’s (the manufacturer and developer of Arbortext APP) support programme and as a consequence receives all upgrades and development support automatically.
We use vs CS4 and CS5 of InDesign and have developed xml-first workflows and sophisticated automatic page make-up routines to enhance InDesign’s effectiveness as a book and journal pagination system.
There are some journals where LaTeX article submission is so high that it only makes sense to use LaTeX to produce them. Likewise a book with heavy math content submitted as LaTeX source files should really be produced using LaTeX.
For journals, Techset has developed methods to copyedit LaTeX articles online and to produce articles within an xml-first workflow.
For books, Techset has developed ways of using the author source files to implement complicated page designs without altering the LaTeX used and enabling a LaTeX download to be produced at the end of the project that can be returned to the author for use in producing a new edition.
Techset understands that LaTeX authors go to great lengths to ensure that the math they deliver is accurate and without mistakes and we know that it is extremely important that their math is not altered in any way by converting it into any other pagination software. This is why we have spent so much time developing LaTeX as a pagination tool and why we can guarantee the absolute integrity of author supplied math in the final print and Web version.
